April’s darlings

We’re about the enter the stretch run for the 2007 baseball season, so it’s time to ask: How are your pre-season divisional picks coming along?

The Divagator has managed to get only one of the current division leaders right, the Los Angeles Angels. Of course, the American League West was probably the most predictable of all the divisions entering the season, as most folks felt the Angels were stronger than the rest of the AL West.

By the same token, none of my pre-season picks are out of contention, but time is getting short for the underperforming Houston Astros. The Astros are 9½ back at this point, and given their team ERA of 4.73, near the bottom of the league, it would take a big turnaround for Houston to leap from 4th place into first. Here’s a look at my pre-season picks:

American League
East

New York Yankees (64-51, 2nd place)

Central
Detroit Tigers (63-52, 2nd place)

West
Los Angeles Angels (66-47, 1st place)

National League
East

Philadelphia Phillies (61-54, 2nd place)

Central
Houston Astros (51-64, 4th place)

West
Los Angeles Dodgers (60-55, 3rd place)
